Bagpipe Drone Tuner

Bagpipe Drone Tuner

How to Use:

  • Start the Reference Drone. It plays at the pitch of bagpipe Low A.
  • Start a Tunable Drone (Tenor or Bass). Its initial pitch will be slightly off.
  • Adjust the slider for the Tunable Drone to match its pitch to the correct target:
    • Tenor Drones tune to Low A.
    • The Bass Drone tunes to one octave below Low A.
  • Listen for the "beating" sound. As you get closer to the target pitch, the beating will slow down and eventually stop when in tune.
  • The slider labels indicate "Top Piece Up" (makes the drone flatter/lower pitch) and "Top Piece Down" (makes it sharper/higher pitch).

Note: Bagpipe Low A is set to 480 Hz for this tuner. The bass drone target is 240 Hz.
